Acupuncture in Practice: Beyond Points and Meridians

Acupuncture in Practice

This is my acupuncture textbook. It is available from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. A practical manual describing the principles and practice of modern medical acupuncture. This book frees the practitioner from dependence on rule of thumb and builds on existing clinical knowledge. Demystifying the process, Acupuncture in Practice demonstrates quick but effective treatment of those disorders for which acupuncture is suitable.

The main question facing the newcomer to acupuncture is often said to be deciding where to place the needles. The practitioner is faced with a bewildering range of possibilities, including traditional acupuncture, the use of trigger points, and the segmental approach. This book aims to simplify the choice by offering a rational procedure, based on modern anatomy, physiology, and pathology, that provides a different way of applying existing clinical knowledge.

The book is in four parts:

CONTENTS: PART 1: Introduction; Ancient or modern? An outline of the traditional system; Modern acupuncture; PART 2: The risks of acupuncture; Principles of treatment; Choosing where to needle; Using the ATA concept in practice; PART 3: General introduction to the treatment section; Acupuncture for the head and neck; The shoulder; The upper limb; Thoracic and lumbar spine; The lower limb; The abdomen; Generalized stimulation; PART 4: Electricity in acupuncture; Ear acupuncture (Auriculotherapy); Self-treatment with acupuncture; Training and accreditation; The future of acupuncture in the West; Bibliography.
